The Right of Allah
Worship Him purely to gain Marifa (gnosis)
Every human being has some specific rights, duties and obligations including the rights of parents, the rights of siblings, the right of Allah, the rights of children, the rights of relatives, the rights of neighbors, etc. The secret of man’s salvation and well-being lies in fulfillment of these rights. Out of all these rights, the greatest right belongs to Allah Almighty who created the entire universe, The Living and Eternal Maintainer. Allah is the Creator, Owner and Sustainer of all things. He is All Powerful. He created fruits of different kinds for man, gave him all kinds of comfort, health and well-being. Therefore, it is obligatory on man to fulfill the right of Allah first. But what is the right of Allah?
What is the Right of Allah?
Mu’adh bin Jabal reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
- “O Mu’adh, do you know what the right of Allah upon His servants is?”
I said, “Allah and his messenger know best.”
The Prophet said:
“To worship Him alone and to associate none in worship with Him. And do you know what is their right upon Him?”
I said, “Allah and his messenger know best.”
The Prophet said, “Not to punish them if they do so.” (Ṣaḥiḥ al-Bukhari 2856)
It means that, the right of Allah is, through every thick and thin, for every single need and in every situation, a man should consult Allah Almighty and only bow before Him. One should not look at others for one’s needs and solution. Moreover, he must have firm belief that everything happens by the grace of Allah.
One Cannot Worship Allah without Marifa
The real worship is to worship Allah with the presence of heart. One cannot gain this state unless he attains marifa.
Allah tells that purpose of the life and creation of man is to attain marifa;
Meaning: I was a hidden Treasure; I desired to be recognized, so I created the creation.
It is obvious from the aforementioned Qudsi Hadith that the purpose of creation of man is to gain marifa (gnosis of Allah).
It Is Obligatory Upon Humans To Attain Marifa To Fulfill The Right Of Allah
Think! Being human is it not our duty to worship Allah, our Creator and Master? Why did we not strive for His marifa, Divine closeness and Divine vision as a code of gratefulness for His blessings? Allah Almighty not only created us but also He created us the noblest of all the creatures. He bestowed us every facility and blessing without asking.
Man Is the Most Fortunate Creature
If a person keenly observes his existence, he will realize that he is the most fortunate and rich person. Allah has bestowed him complete senses and limbs. But a man is so ungrateful that he completely forgets his Lord on the basis of powers which Allah Almighty gave to him. When a person does us some favour or does something for us, we do not get tired of reciting his hymns. But we completely forget our Lord and do not thank Him, no matter how big achievements he rewarded us with. What is the reason behind it?
To Overlook Marifa Leads To Ungratefulness
The biggest reason for this is we neglect the purpose of life i.e. to gain marifa. It means that the common man has not yet understood why Allah has sent him in the world? If Allah Almighty sent him in this world to indulge in it and to follow the desires of inner lusts, then why does he die?
The reality is, the purpose of sending us to realm of physical world is to gain marifa and Divine closeness and vision. Allah Almighty has reminded man of his purpose in life at various places in the Quran.
Meaning: O people! Worship your Lord, Who created you and (also) those who were before you, so that you become Godwary. (He is the One) Who spread out the earth for you as a floor, and erected the sky as a mansion, and showered water from the sky and brought forth with that (a variety of) fruits for your nourishment. So, do not set up equals with Allah whilst you know (the truth of the matter). (Al-Baqarah: 21-22)
Meaning: And now in the earth you have been destined a dwelling place and sustenance for a fixed time. (Al-Baqarah: 36)
Allah’s blessings are countless
At another place Allah Almighty recounts His blessings in following words:
Meaning: He is the One Who has spread out the earth for the creatures. There are fruits in it and blossom-bearing date-palms. And chaff-covered grain and fragrant (fruits and) blooms. So, (O assembly of jinn and men,) which of your Lord’s blessings will you deny? (Al-Rahman: 10-13)
The right of Allah is the greatest
In short, from gaining conscious in this world till the eternal journey to Allah Almighty, if anyone has the greatest right over human life, then it is the right of Allah alone. In this right, He has neither a partner nor anyone equal to Him.
The Right of Allah on Our Existence
To become a Muslim, a person recites Shahada. It is a testimony to the fact that Allah Almighty is the only Lord. Therefore, priority of the right of Allah is hidden in Shahada.
Sultan Bahoo & the Right Of Allah:
- Both the worlds are encompassed by knowledge while whole knowledge is present in Shahada Shahada is in Ism e Allah Zaat. Whoever recites Shahada with verification of heart and understands its essence comes to know every knowledge. Then nothing remains hidden from him. (Ameer-ul-Kaunain)
Sultan-ul-Faqr VI & the Right Of Allah:
- Shahada is the foundation of being a Muslim. When a common person recites Shahada, he declares just by his tongue that “No one is worthy of worship except Allah and Mohammad is the Prophet of Allah.” By saying this, he becomes a Muslim. While the special ones say it with the endorsement of heart (after having the observation). Moreover, the Mystics actually experience it by reaching its core. (Sultan-ul-Faqr VI Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali – Life and Teachings)
First Part of Shahada Testify The Priority Of The Right Of Allah
Therefore, the confession in the first part of Shahada that no one is worthy of worship except Allah, is a testimony to the fact that the first right of Allah over man is one must consider Him the only Creator, Absolute Master and the Only God. In any case, worship, obedience and submission to others are not permissible at all, but every obedience and submission should be for the pleasure of Allah Almighty and not for satisfaction of inner baser self.
Obedience To The Holy Prophet Is Essential To Attain Marifa
In the second part of Shahada, a Muslim declares that Mohammad is the Prophet of Allah. He declares it in such a way that the Holy Prophet is the perfect reflection of Allah. Obedience of the Holy Prophet is essential for the completion of faith and for perseverance on the right path. His obedience can only be gained by following his teachings. His teachings are in fact teaching of Faqr, about which he says:
اَلْفَقْرُ فَخْرِیْ وَالْفَقْرُ مِنِّیْ فَافْتَخِرُّ بِہ ٖ عَلیٰ سَائِرِ الْاَنْبِیَآءِ وَالْمُرْسَلِیْنَ
Meaning: Faqr is my pride and Faqr is from me and Faqr is the reason of my superiority over all the Prophets and Messengers. (Ain-ul-Faqr)
At another point he says:
اَلْفَقْرُ کَنْزٌ مِنْ کَنُوْزِ اللّٰہِ تَعَالیٰ
Meaning: Faqr is one of the treasures of Allah.
If a Muslim gives credence to these Hadiths with all his heart and soul by removing the veils of innerself, he will surely attain not only his purpose in life, but he will be elevated to the ranks of the beloved of Allah. Allah says about them:
وَ بَشِّرِ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ اَنَّ لَہُمۡ جَنّٰتٍ تَجۡرِیۡ مِنۡ تَحۡتِہَا الۡاَنۡہٰرُ ؕ ﴿۲۵﴾
Meaning: And, (O Beloved Prophet,) give glad tidings to those who believe and keep doing pious deeds that for them there are Gardens (of Paradise) beneath which streams flow. (Al-Baqarah: 25)
Sacred Companions Are the Beacon Of Light For the Umma
The Holy Quran is a Divine revelation and after Prophet Mohammad the People of the Cloak are the perfect manifestation of Quran and the Sunna. If a person wants to fulfill the right of Allah then these sacred personalities are the beacon of light for him. It would not be wrong to say that when Fatimah-tuz-Zahra, beloved daughter of the Holy Prophet adopted Faqr for the fulfillment of the right of Allah, she elevated to the highest spiritual status of Sultan-ul-Faqr. Similarly, when Ali ibn Abi Talib adopted it, he became the Lion of Allah. In the same way, Hassan ibn Ali became Al-Mujtaba (The Chosen One) and Husayn ibn Ali was bestowed with the rank of the leader of the martyr.
When the sacred Companions of the Holy Prophet adopted Faqr, then they became Al-Siddiq (the truthful), Al-Farooq (the one who distinguishes between right and wrong) and Al-Ghani (the generous). It is due to Faqr, the beloved of Allah are called al-Ghawth al-Azam, Sultan-ul-Arifeen, Sultan-ul-Faqr, Sultan-ul-Awliya and Shahbaz-e-Arifan (the falcon of Mystics).
Obedience to all the righteous
All those who want to walk on the path of Faqr with sincerity, they must obey and follow the beloved of Allah. Because these Beloveds of Allah affirmed the Divine Oneness by the verification of heart and enlightened their innerselves through the real worship of Allah. Hence, a person should dedicate all his physical and mental abilities on the path of righteousness because these abilities are the gift of Allah. Moreover, he should do all acts of worship and mystic struggles to please Allah, the Ultimate Ruler.
Level Of Marifa Depends Upon the Level Of Divine Proximity
Ali ibn Uthman al-Hujwiri writes in Kashf-ul-Mahjoob (Revelation of the Veiled) that a Saint said:
- Only that person has the highest degree of marifa (gnosis) who excels the most in mystic struggles in obeying His commands. Moreover, he follows the Sunna of His Prophet the most.
It means that, the one who has highest degree of proximity to Allah Almighty he will excel the most in obeying His commands. On the other hand, whoever is far away from His Divine court, he will be far away from following His Messenger. (Revelation of the Veiled)
Carrying out the Divine commands by the verification of heart affirms their acceptance in the Divine court, whether those are related to the His worship or obedience.
What is worship?
Worship is obedience, a mode of thinking and meditation. Meaning thereby, if the thought of slave of Allah is about the duties of Allah Almighty, then this is also worship, otherwise no soulless act of worship has the status of worship at all. It is mere hypocrisy and deception. Therefore, we can say that Allah has full right over our outward existence, in the same way only Allah has right over our thoughts and actions. Our exoteric self is linked with following Sharia and fulfilling its requirements. Whereas, our acts and thoughts are related to our esoteric self.
Right of Allah on Thought and Action
The Holy Prophet said:
إنما الأعمال بالنيات
Meaning: Our deeds are judged by what we meant to accomplish through them.
Allah’s right upon our every act is that whatever we do, the intention behind that should be only to gain pleasure of Allah. And not pretence or to earn worldly fame. It is further explained below:
If people respect and treat their parents with dignity only to please Allah and fulfil His commandments then any such act would be obedience of Allah. Whereas on the other hand if someone serves their parents only for some worldly reward then such act would be classed as disobeying Allah’s orders. Same applies to the parents, if they bring up their children for Allah’s pleasure and consent then that would be a source of reward for them and if they do that thinking that their children will look after them when they become elderly then this thought and act will lead to Allah’s anger.
A worker must discharge his/her duties honestly and to the best of their ability. This is even more important when their boss is not around. Same principle applies to the business owner or a senior to treat his/her subordinates fairly.
Thus, any act or deed that someone does with sincerity and for Allah’s pleasure will be accepted in the court of Allah. As aforementioned, outcome of a deed depends on the intention. When a person’s intention moves away from Allah and is directed to the world and its riches then Satan and innerself occupy the inward of such person. They distract that person from Allah and keep him / her away from their real purpose in life. Which is to attain recognition and gnosis of Allah.
Effect of thinking on the inward and outward
Thoughts arise in the mind and are either based on love or hatred. Human thoughts have deep effect on one’s heart. If the thoughts are about Allah then that will make the heart or inward remember Allah. It is the remembrance of Allah that is the sustenance of our soul, hence our souls find peace and feel satiated when our inward is filled with the remembrance of Allah.
Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani says:
“When one’s inward is cleansed of the various esoteric diseases then it is closest to Allah Almighty. When one follows Hadith and Quran, his/her inward gets closer to Allah. As the inward gets closer to Allah, it gains spiritual senses such as spiritual sight. It begins to recognise things that are good for it and thing that are not, things that are for Allah and those that are for other than Allah. It recognises Truth and evil.” (Fathh al-Rabbani Majlis 5)
If one’s thought is filled with the worldly desires than that will attract the inward to the world as well. Eventually that person moves away from Allah. According to Plato, thinking is conversing with one’s soul. This endorses the fact that one’s thoughts reflect on their inward as well as their outward.
It is said that one’s beloved is in fact their worship. So, how it is justified when we have countless idols within our inward and yet we claim to be Momin (true believer)? Only the thinking that stays restless for Allah’s remembrance turns towards Allah. Negative thought is associated with Satan. Therefore, only that person is a Momin whose centre of thought is Divine Essence.
Indeed, one cannot comprehend the grandeur and might of Allah and therefore, His rights are also unlimited. However, we must try and demonstrate through our acts that only Allah is the Lord of all the worlds and worship Him sincerely. Every act of our lives should only revolve around Allah. One day we will return to Him.
Recognition of Allah is only possible through Fakirs
However, recognition and gnosis and consent of Allah is possible to achieve through the medium of Allah’s Fakirs. The Fakirs and saints are the accomplished men of Allah who have travelled the esoteric path themselves under the guidance of a perfect spiritual guide. So they know how to guide mankind on this path and they only do this following gaining permission from their spiritual guide and from the Mohammadan Assembly.
Sultan ul Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib ur Rehman is the present Shaikh of the Sarwari Qadri order. He is highly accomplished spiritual guide and Universal Divine Man of this era. He grants Ism e Allah Zaat for invocation and contemplation. And through his Divine company and spiritual attention, he cleanses the inwards of his disciples of the various esoteric diseases. He has turned numerous seekers of the world to seekers of Allah through his spiritual attention. It is incumbent upon us to adopt company of Sultan ul Ashiqeen as the Universal Divine Man of this era and get our innerselves purged of the various diseases so that we achieve the purpose of our lives.
